Vita Coco Coconut Water

Coconut water is supposed to have a ton of health benefits. The most impressive, to me, is that it has more potassium than most sports drinks. It also helps aid in digestion, boost circulation, and it's an awesome hydrator.

That being said... I have to say, I wasn't sure how I was going to like this. Would it be too sweet? Sweet enough? How would I use it?

When Vita Coco sent me samples of their coconut water, I decided I would try the first one in a smoothie. On the weekends, our post-gym smoothie usually consists of the following:

Spinach
A frozen banana
A scoop of protein powder or Amazing Meal
Frozen fruit (mango, strawberries, peaches, blueberries... one or a combination of a few of them plus maybe some fresh fruit if we want to use anything up)
Water

So... I cracked one open (plain first) and took a sip. I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I loved this! It has light, slightly sweet flavor. It's refreshing and definitely tastes coconut-y!

It was AMAZING in the weekend smoothie! Look how pretty :)

We've tried them all at this point. I'm crazy about plain and also pineapple. Peach and mango is really good, too. It's the perfect addition to the weekend smoothie. I've also had a container straight from the gym when I couldn't wait for the blender!

A really nice bonus for me is that I notice that when coconut water is part of my post-gym snack, I'm less sore later which is always a good thing.

Hi Melissa, thanks for mentioning me in your Things I like This Week entry:-) The coconut water sounds intriguing; how is the caloric count? carbohydrate count?

I love Vita Coco smoothies too, I replace them as meals to lose weight. And Trish, Vita Coco only has 60 calories a serving.

Vita Coco helps me stay hydrated while I'm at the gym better than anything else I've tried.

As a "creature of habit", I tend to eat/drink the same things on a consistent basis. When I was first introduced to Vita Coco, I was semi-skeptical, but I can now say that it has become one of the few staple beverages in my diet. Vita Coco rocks!!

Trish, sorry I missed your questions about calorie and carb count...

Like Anonymous said (thanks, Anonymous!), vita coco is pretty low in calories. In terms of carbohydrate count... the plain is 11, and it's all sugar carbs, but natural sugars, as the only ingredient is simple coconut water!

I would like to exchange links with your site www.blogger.com
Is this possible?
