Kaia Foods Product Review!
The nice people at Kaia Foods sent me some fun stuff to review!
The first item I sampled was the Kale Chips. I had tried to make my own in the past, but found them too fragile to really enjoy them. I figured I had done something wrong in the process of making them, so I was excited that someone else did the work this time :)
Here’s the honest truth: The taste was excellent… the Sea Salt and Vinegar are tossed with sesame seeds and sea salt. Barbecue flavor was very very good. However… for me, they’re just too high in calories for such little food. At around 200 calories, they just aren’t a filling enough snack for me. I think for someone who doesn’t need to watch their caloric intake, they could be great. Or a fun idea would be to sprinkle a little on a salad or maybe mix in with some rice or potatoes. With such a good flavor, they do go a long way.
Second on the list was the Buckwheat Granola - Cocoa Bliss flavor. This I liked very much and primarily used it on my morning oatmeal, or on yogurt. Again, my only real complaint is the calorie count. At 220 calories for ½ a cup, a serving is just too much for me right now.
Sprouted Sunflower Seeds! Kaia sent me two samples - Sweet Curry and Teriyaki. Both were very good and great as a salad topper.
My favorite of all the Kaia samples was definitely the Fruit Leather. The two samples I received were Spiced Apple and Vanilla Pear. You know me and my simple ingredients.... and it doesn’t get more simple than apple, banana and spices. And at 30 calories each, you can’t ask for more in a sweet snack.
So I definitely think I’ll keep my eyes peeled for the fruit leather at Whole Foods.... and some day, when I’m not obsessing about my calorie consumption, I will probably give the Dates and Spices Buckwheat Granola a try.
