Lavera Skin Care
I’m always on the lookout for beauty products made with less (preferably no) chemicals. I learned about German company Lavera, I knew I needed to try it out. Emily at Lavera sent me some lovely products to sample, based on the information I gave her about my hair and skin type.
First Up: Faces Calendula for Normal and Combination Skin
From the Lavera Website:
“The FACES Calendula line is specifically designed to regulate the moisture content and balance for normal and combination skin. This line of 5 products regulates your skin while caressing your senses with the warm natural undertones of orange, honey and vanilla. As with all Lavera products, this line is certified natural by the BDIH, contains certified organic ingredients and is completely paraben-free”.
Key Ingredients: Certified Organic Calendula, Avocado & Olive Oils, Shea Butter & Anti-Oxidant Vitamins E & C
Benefits: Balances oily skin while boosting moisture levels & protects against aging skin
Result: Skin is balanced & healthy, clean and glowing!
The first thing that struck me about this product was the yummy smell. It smells like oranges. I actually thought it would be too much but it’s just a nice, pleasant scent as you’re putting it on, then it kind of goes away.
I didn’t know what calendula was, so I looked it up:
It’s marigold! According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, the calendula plant has been used as far back as the 12th century for medicinal purposes.

In terms of performance, it definitely made my skin feel balanced. I had no dry or oily spots. My skin didn’t feel baby soft after applying it, like it does with some moisturizers, but I don’t think that’s purpose of Faces. I think it’s simply a skin regulator. In that sense, it definitely worked.
Second in the Line Up: Mango Milk Shampoo and Conditioner
Very happy with these two. A lot of times when I try natural shampoos, I find that they don’t lather very well. That’s definitely not the case with the Mango Milk. Tons of good lather and my hair feels great after shampooing and conditioning with these products.
Volume Mascara No. 3
I gave this to a friend to try and here’s what she has to say
“Coming from a girl who doesn’t wear mascara:
I LOVED this! First of all, it’s brown and I never even considered trying brown mascara; I’ve always worn black. I don’t like it to look like I’m wearing a lot of makeup, so this is perfect, brown is much more subtle. Also, it didn’t end up making my under eye area look dark, which usually happens with other mascara, and it came of easily with face wash and water. I didn’t look like a nightmare”.
Concealer No. 1
I gave this sample to the same friend to try and unfortunately for her, this wasn’t a good match. The color was a bit light for her and it felt a bit “clumpy”. However, she is open to the idea that it may have just looked clumpy because the color was off, so she’s passing it on to one of our other friends to try. I’ll follow up with her review soon.
So I basically really like what I see so far with this company. I’m excited to try the organic cosmetics, and to get Bob some of the men’s products to try. Emily tells me that Lavera recently launched at Target, which makes it so much easier to get to my mango milk shampoo! :)
